Gerald Anderson's dream co-stars
(The Freeman) Updated March 30, 2012 12:00 AM
CEBU, Philippines - If Gerald Anderson were to draw up a wish list of female co-stars, the young actor said former soap opera queens Judy Ann Santos and Claudine Barreto would top his choices.
Not necessarily as leading ladies because of the age gap, but as co-actors in a project that will again challenge his dramatic chops, the same way that his last television starrer where he portrayed an autistic child did.
When it comes to his next on-screen romantic interest though, he doesn’t have an immediate preference.
“Foremost in my mind is the kind of project and the concept behind it. As a leading lady, as long as we have good chemistry and we fit the part, then I’m all for it,” Gerald, 23, told The FREEMAN.
He was last paired on TV with Jessy Mendiola in ABS-CBN’s Budoy, and with Sarah Geronimo in his most recent Star Cinema movie Won’t Last a Day Without You.
While the Fil-Am heartthrob is currently played up with singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, his long-time love team Kim Chiu is likewise heavily linked to her My Binondo Girl castmate Xian Lim. Does he miss his tried-and-tested team-up with the Cebuana chinita?
Gerald, whose ticket to tinsel town was through joining the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition in 2006, said, “Me and Kim started together and we were a love team for four years, so we became each other’s comfort zone. If I say something in a scene, I already know what her reaction will be, and vice-versa. It’s good to be partnered with different actresses, so that when time comes that we’ll be working together again, we already have experiences outside of each other.”
One of those successful projects he had outside of the Kimerald mold was the recently ended primetime series Budoy, where he was seen in the offbeat role of a person with Angelman syndrome who had flashes of genius. For the part, he willingly shed weight, grew his hair (later shaved it bald), used brow extensions and wore false teeth.
His efforts were worth it, Gerald said, because of the feedback from viewers who understood the drama’s underlying message. “There were parents who came up to me to say thank you because they also had ‘Budoys’ of their own. Which is good because we had a saying in the show ‘Be happy, be Budoy.’ My character became a symbol of happiness. I’m happy that we were able to bring that across to viewers, and that we were able to inspire them, even those families who have no special children in their brood,” expressed Gerald.
He added that playing a mentally challenged individual also opened opportunities for him to help others. “Aside from the basketball charities I participated in to help typhoon victims, I also gave a cash donation for a school, where I did my immersion with special children. It was in that school where I observed their mannerisms, habits, their interaction with other children and adults.”
With no soap or film tying him up at the moment, Gerald will fly to the United States today for the Star Magic US Tour and for a Teleserye Bida 2012 Tour on March 31. (FREEMAN)

Juday's manager: Never with Claudine

WE told Judy Ann Santos at her launch as Eden Cheese celebrity endorser that she’s the only one in her batch (that includes Claudine Barretto and Jolina Magdangal) who remains so active because she has such a beautiful and positive aura resulting from her happy marriage with Ryan Agoncillo.
“Thank you po,” she said. “Ang sarap namang pakinggan.”
Right now, so many film companies are vying for her services to start a new movie with them. Viva wants her to do a movie with Claudine Barretto (their first together) while Star Cinema wants her to star with Coco Martin or John Lloyd Cruz. GMA Films is also after her to do “Ouija 2” while Gov. ER Ejercito wants her to play his first wife in “El Presidente, Emilio Aguinaldo Story.”
Her manager, Alfie Lorenzo, doesn’t want Juday to do a movie with Claudine, so that’s out. Her project with Coco has long been in the drawing boards but she’d have to wait as he’s still finishing “You Light Up My Life” with Angeline Quinto. Also, Mother Lily wants Coco to give priority to his movie with Marian Rivera to start shooting soon, directed by Maryo de los Reyes with an August playdate. As for a movie with John Lloyd, Juday also has to wait since he’s giving priority to his reunion movie with Sarah Geronimo, their third team up. Someone tells us “Malabo rin yung ‘Ouija 2’ ng GMA Films and Juday herself has turned down the offer of Gov. ER.
In the Eden Cheese affair, Juday made it clear she has nothing against ER. “It’s a big project at historical pa,” she says. “But I cannot relate to the character I’d play kasi hindi naman siya buhay. I’d rather play someone I can relate with personally, para mas mabigyan ko ng justice. Ayokong mapulaan ang movie ng dahil sa’kin. I’m sure they can get a better actress na mas makakatulong para mas mapaganda ang movie. I have nothing personal against Gov. ER. Ako mismo ang natatakot na baka hindi ko maitawid ng tama yung role at lumabas lang ng katawa-tawa. I hope he understands.”

What motivates Judy Ann

Jet Valle / Gab Fab
WE seem to be forever fascinated with the ups and downs of Judy Ann Santos, especially when it comes to her weight.
During
her younger years, we were kind to her rotund features but as she
matured, haters were screaming for her to lose the pubescent baby fat.
Lose it she did with a strict diet and exercise plan, and Judy Ann’s
star shone brighter than ever.
And then came her pregnancy and when she gave birth, many felt sorry for Judy Ann for gaining all that baby weight.
She
went slightly under the radar and when she suddenly re-emerged via the
ABS-CBN Christmas station ID, many were positively shocked by how svelte
she was again.
We
spoke to Judy Ann recently at her launch as the endorser of Eden
Cheese, covering everything from her weight to the wait for a new
project and more.
I hate you for being so thin and losing all that baby weight so quickly! So what size are you now?
(Laughs)
I really don’t know. I think only Paul Cabral (fashion designer) knows
the exact measurements but I’ve lost some weight. I know I’m smaller and
leaner now.
What exercise regimen are you in now? Are you doing Cohen?
Running…to
the kids! (Laughs) I really chase after them because we play a lot when
I’m home. So that’s where I get my exercise! As for my diet, I’m used
to eating small amounts of food and at regular intervals. It’s already part of my lifestyle.
Isn’t it ironic you’re now endorsing a cheese brand?
I
never told anyone to starve themselves or deprive themselves of cheese.
(Laughs) Eating is good actually but when done the right way. And that
includes eating cheese. It can give you the energy to workout pa nga e,
that’s why I really take Eden Cheese with my kids.
Anyway, you are one hot momma now!
Wow!
Kahit kailan, hinding-hindi ko naiisip na darating ako sa puntong
tatawagin akong hot momma. Well, they used to call me “hot siopao”!
(Laughs)
Do you feel some sort of vindication from those who had bashed you over your weight gain?
Well,
most of the fans were very supportive toward my recent weight gain
because it’s only natural to do so kasi nga nabuntis ako, ’di ba? For
those who didn’t...well, when I lose weight, I never feel vindication.
Parang pride and happiness lang for feeling good. Like I exercise not to
lose weight but because it feels good. Even before when I did Muay
Thai, it was more because I wanted to learn self-defense not because I
wanted to lose weight. The first time I also started to lose weight,
tinuloy-tuloy ko na kasi masarap pala mag-sleeveless! Masarap sa
kilikili that’s why I said to myself to continue doing it. (Laughs)
So what advice can you give to women who really want to lose weight but always fail to do so?
Do
it for yourself and not because people are commenting that you’ve
gained weight or that you’ll look better because you’re just this size
or ganito ka kabigat. It should start within you. That’s what should
motivate you.

KRAFT EDEN CHEESE
Judy Ann Santos kay Gerald Anderson: Sana totoo ang panliligaw kay Sarah Geronimo!
- Friday, March 30, 2012, 1:13
