Ryan Agoncillo has his own favorite among the eight grand
finalists in the “Talentadong Pinoy Battle of Champions,” but he won’t
share it with the public as a matter of professionalism. The online news portal of TV5
The actor and TV host revealed that he and the program staff, with whom he also worked on “Philippine Idol” (TV5’s first talent show), have made a tradition of putting up a private betting pool for every grand finals since “Talentadong Pinoy” debuted in 2008.
This weekend’s two-night event will be the third time.
“Nanalo ako noong first year, noong time ni Yoyo Tricker. Ako ‘yung nanalo,” he said. He did not reveal the amount he pocketed, which he spent on a blowout party for his staff, anyway.
Ryan lost the bet last year when Joseph the Artist ran away with the prize. He also did not reveal his choice for that season.

He said even his wife, Judy Ann Santos, with whom he celebrated their third wedding anniversary last week, has her own favorite, and it is always different from his own.
Such is the level of competition in the show, which just added another feather to its cap by winning the Most Popular TV Program Talent Search/Reality honors at the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Awards last Sunday.
The 33-year-old Ryan has hosted several remarkable TV programs since his hosting debut in 1998, but he is proudest of the phenomenal success achieved by “Talentadong Pinoy,” one of TV5’s flagship shows.
Since it premiered four years ago, the homegrown talent search has withstood formidable competition from a slew of rival programs, including international franchises.
“Noong nag-start itong ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ wala namang pumapansin sa amin sa Novaliches e. It took us eight months para mapansin,” a candid Ryan told a media conference Monday.
But the show did take off and has since turned several of its champions into household names, such as Season 1 winner Yoyo Tricker, ventriloquist Wanlu, poet Makata Tawanan, and Season 2 winner Joseph the Artist.
This weekend, the show will hold its third Battle of the Champions which, Ryan promises, will be the grandest finals ever.
“This is our biggest show in terms of presentation as well as prizes. Bukod sa isang milyon at brand-new car, sigurado nang magiging representative sa WCOPA (World Championships of Performing Arts) ang winner,” Ryan said.
“Talentadong Pinoy” will revert to its two-night format, with the performance night on Saturday, May 5, and the results night on Sunday, May 6. Both will be aired live from a big tent especially constructed for the event at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
Eight grand finalists, the best of the best in the past year, will compete for the honor to be named the third “Talentadong Pinoy” Ultimate Talentado.
Seven of them are Hall of Famers, champions who reigned for a minimum of five consecutive weeks: power belter Ayegee (Ivy Grace Paredes), kundiman warbler Melbelline Caluag, dance group Dancing is Fun, the brother-and-sister ballroom dance duo of Craig and Samantha Abaya-Campos, hula hoop-fire dancer Astroboy (Daniel Darwin), pole dancer Sustantivo (Johnny Villanueva),and sand artist Monica Regalario, a protégée of last year’s winner, Joseph the Artist.
Rounding up the list of finalists is wild card entry Rhyzza Nicol Cafilas, a dusky R and B singer from San Mateo, Rizal. The winner will be decided through an aggregate score from the jury decision (50 percent) and text votes from the public (50 percent).
