As the Queen of Teleseryes celebrates her 33rd birthday today, FN shares a list of traits that make her one amazing woman. By Belle Yambao
Judy Ann Santos turns 33 today! Not only is this critically-acclaimed actress a winner in the heart of her husband, Ryan Agoncillo, and her children, Yohan and Lucho, but she’s wonderful in Female Network’s book too.
Judy Ann has been charming audiences since she was a teen, first capturing our hearts as the kind-hearted Mara in the teleserye Mara Clara. She has won over 10 Best Actress awards through the years. Ploning, her debut film as a producer for which she was also the lead actress, became the Philippines’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Academy Awards.
This super mom has two lovely kids: adopted daughter Yohan and baby Lucho, her son with husband Ryan Agoncillo. She starred with Yohan in a commercial for Lactum, and recently, she watched her daughter performing on national TV for the first time as she sang and danced for Ryan’s birthday special on Talentadong Pinoy.

Ryan and Judy Ann first got to know each other on the set of fantaserye Krystala. Love blossomed between them, and they tied the knot four years later in a private wedding in Batangas. The two lovebirds have also starred alongside each other in two movies and a comedy series. Judy Ann recently showed her support for Ryan’s hosting skills by showing up as a judge on Talentadong Pinoy, her first TV appearance since she gave birth to Lucho last year.

Judy Ann gives back and assists the marginalized through her very own Touch A Heart Foundation. Among its past beneficiaries are a community of Aetas in Bataan and a local hospital in Cuyo, Palawan, which was also where Ploning was shot.

When celebrity and close friend Gladys Reyes and her family were trapped in their home during typhoon Ondoy, it was Judy Ann and Ryan who came to their rescue. “Forever grateful ako sa kanila,” Gladys is quoted as saying in an ABS-CBNNews.com report. Gladys and Judy Ann share the good times too--they kept each other company when they were both pregnant last year.

While she might not be singer Sarah Geronimo’s biological sister, Judy Ann treats her like a member of the family. They became close during their stint together in the dramedy Hating Kapatid. Besides looking out for her off-screen, Judy Ann also has sisterly advice for Sarah: “Try to enjoy life kasi hindi na maibabalik kung ano yung edad niya ngayon, hindi naman maire-rewind 'yon, e. Na enjoy-in niya, namnamin niya yung buhay niya, ang pagiging bata. (Try to enjoy life since she’ll never be able to revisit this time; whatever age she is now, she won’t be able to do a rewind. She should enjoy things, savor her life, her youth.)”

Judy Ann gamely showed her bare face and showcased her natural beauty in a shoot with Marie Claire. Photographer Mark Nicdao shares his experience shooting her. “Judy Ann is a fun girl so we were just chatting while shooting... it’s always a breeze working with her because she can be everything you want her to be in front of the camera—that’s why she’s a star.”

Judy Ann makes sure that she lives her life to the fullest, and she has no regrets when it comes to the experiences she’s gotten from life. “It made me a better person, a stronger person,” she is quoted as saying on PEP.ph. “In fact, it made me love life more kasi normal akong tao, hindi ako yung extraordinary na hindi nasasaktan (because I’m a normal person. I’m not the extraordinary type who doesn’t get hurt).”

Judy Ann graced the cover of YES! Magazine’s first ever 100 Most Beautiful Stars special in 2007 and was also featured in the most recent list of stars in 2010. We think it’s not just because of her simple beauty and cheerful personality, but her dedication to achieving her goals—all without sacrificing her family and love life! She’s a superwoman in every sense of the word, and we love her for it.

Judy Ann admits missing acting, but she’d rather take fewer projects to make time for her family. “I think I would have to wait for the right and perfect project para maiwan ko muna sandali yung mga anak ko. Kasi para sa akin, kailangan may mas matinding dahilan para hayaan ko yung mga bata sa bahay, e (for me to leave my kids even for a little while. I need a really good reason to leave my kids behind at home),” she is quoted as saying on PEP.ph.
