After starring in ABS-CBN's advoca-serye Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala, Judy Ann Santos is slated to star in another project that sheds light on the plight of women.
In an exclusive phone interview with Direk Peque Gallaga, he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) about his excitement for this upcoming project with Juday (Judy Ann's nickname).
"We're very excited," said Direk Peque about this project wherein Juday is cast as a "drug mule."
The veteran director revealed: "Juday plays a drug mule...ito ang mga babae who go to China and they swallow the drugs."
Direk Peque will co-direct this project with Lore Reyes.
When asked if this is based on a true story, he pointed out the plot is based on true incidents but will not depict any one particular story of a person.
Will they be shooting in China? "We hope so, pero depende sa budget."
Direk Peque has been wanting to work with Juday for several years already.
"Everytime Juday and I see each other, we always say, 'When are we going to work together?' Nagkataon, there is a really great idea that is perfect for Judy Ann.
"Nagkataon, I talked with Bistek [Herbert Bautista] and I mentioned that I wanted to do something with Juday. Then sabi ni Bistek, 'ako rin.'
"Everything fell into place."
Direk Peque recalled that he and Herbert worked with each other for the 1984 horror movie Shake Rattle and Roll. He helmed the "Manananggal" segment, which was penned by Uro Dela Cruz. Direk Peque has asked Uro to write the script of this upcoming Judy Ann-starrer.
