'Bet On Your Baby' joins ABS-CBN's 'Yes! Weekend'
MANILA -- Judy Ann Santos, dubbed local TV's "Queen of Pinoy Soap Opera," considers her latest project as a "breather" from the dramatic roles she has become known for in the last two decades.
The 35-year-old actress, who recently inked a two-year contract with ABS-CBN, said "Bet On Your Baby" was a big factor in extending her ties with the Kapamilya network.
The Philippine adaptation of the game show, which features as contestants two- to three-year-old children, will premiere Saturday on ABS-CBN after "TV Patrol: Weekend."
"I would say yes," Santos said during a recent press conference for the show, when asked if she saw the project appealing when it was first offered to her.
"Kasi breather siya eh. Parang bagung-bago, tapos walang iyak na kasali and at the same time, masaya lang. So ngayon, gusto ko muna gumawa ng project na masaya lang," she said.
In the original format of "Bet On Your Baby," toddlers are accompanied by their parents in a series of challenges. How well the parents can guess their respective babies' next move in these tests will determine the winner of the show.
Joining the Kapamilya program's first episodes as contestants are celebrity parents Ai Ai delas Alas, Benjie Paras, Anthony Taberna, Michael Flores, and Ogie Diaz, among others.
"Gusto ko munang ngumiti nang ngumiti, masaya lang," Santos said. "Kasi sa 'Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala' (her most recent drama series) palaging nakakunot ang noo ko, palagi akong galit, palagi akong nanapok, nanampal. So maiba naman."
"Siguro 'yung plataporma ng career ko ngayon, ano, is to juggle muna drama and then a different and then maybe a movie and then drama again, para hindi iisa lang 'yung ginagawa mo," she said.
Prior to "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," Santos hosted two editions of the reality cooking show "MasterChef," which she noted to be different from being a game show master as in "Bet On Your Baby."
Admitting she has had to adjust to the demands of being an "energetic" TV host, Santos said she nonetheless finds fulfillment in her latest job description.
"Good vibes lang siya. Masaya lang siya. Isa siyang game show na no-brainer. Pampa-kilig lang sa mga mommies, pampa-proud sa mga babies, atsaka sa dami ng mga pinagdadaanan natin ngayon, parang oras na na makakita tayo ng game show na walang uuwing walang dala," she said.

Santos, herself with two children, hopes "Bet On Your Baby" will start a cycle of projects that will allow her to do more fun-filled shows, in addition to taking on dramatic roles."Siguro 'yung plataporma ng career ko ngayon, ano, is to juggle muna drama and then a different and then maybe a movie and then drama again, para hindi iisa lang 'yung ginagawa mo," she said.
