Band vocalist JR Royol took home P1 M, a kitchen showcase and a culinary scholarship for becoming the first Pinoy MasterChef in a final live cook-off held at the SM Skydome on Saturday, February 9.
His winning dish, the Bigorot,or three-way cooked chicken, earned a total of 96.1 points from the panel of judge composed of Ferns Aracama, Rolando Laudico, Jayps Anglo, host Judy Ann Santos and celebrity guest judges Kris Aquino and Richard Gomez.
Kris described JR’s fusion of Bicolano and Igorot chicken cuisine as "perfection."
Entrepreneur Carla Marcaida, who prepared adobong tuna and kaning dilaw, placed second, with a score of 93.9 points.
Ivory Yat’s Palabok Finale dish ranked third with 93 points.
Myra Santos, who was eliminated in the last challenge before the final round, placed fourth. Her coconut sambal and rice and turones de buco failed to impress the chef judges.
