Judy Ann Santos ready to have third kid, but says work makes it hard

Actress Judy Ann Santos, who gave birth to son Lucho last year, is ready to have another baby with her husband, TV host Ryan Agoncillo. They have a 6-year-old adopted daughter, Yohan.

“I’ll be 34 in May,” Judy Ann told Inquirer. “If another baby comes, I’m ready. A child is a blessing. But as much as Ryan and I want a big family, it’s hard to raise children these days, especially in our kind of work where nothing is permanent.”

The actress hosts the cooking show “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” on ABS-CBN, which is down to 12 finalists: Acee Salangsang, Bianca Dimapilis, Caitlin Taluban, Emman Buquid, Iain Johnston, Jobim Jalbuena, Kyle Imao, Mika Tanaka, Miko Manzano, Patrick Baldosano, Philip Amarillo and Tricia Baylosis.

What can we expect from the show at this point?

There will be more intense challenges for the kids. They already know a lot of cooking techniques; the next rounds will be harder.

You lost a lot of weight. How did you do it?

I’m back to 120 lbs, my weight before I got pregnant. I go to the gym, I jog if I have free time. I also do yoga. Ryan encourages me. He knows how frustrated I get when I’m on a diet.

Will you soon be back doing TV drama?

I’m waiting for the right project. It will depend on the story, who I’ll be working with and when. I have several movies lined up.

You’ll be doing one with Coco Martin.

Yes, we’ll start next year. Coco is still busy with his movie with Angeline Quinto; I’m still doing “My Househusband.” (The movie, directed by Joey Reyes, is for the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.)

Do you feel pressured because your movie is part of a formidable festival lineup?

There’s always pressure when joining the MMFF, but I’m happy to have been included.

Are you bothered about the rumor romantically linking Ryan to Brazilian model Daiana Menezes?

I just laugh at that; it’s really petty.

Your fans reacted negatively to Daiana.

I’ve apologized to her. She’s new in the industry. I explained to her that, yes, there are malicious people, but they’re not the majority.

Did you ever consider leaving your home network at some point?

All actors go through it. There will always be people from different camps who will try to convince you to transfer, but it will all depend on you. I admit having considered it many times, when I didn’t see eye to eye with my bosses in ABS-CBN. But things always got sorted out in the end.

Nag-isip si Bong. Kinamot ang baba. Aminado siyang tinalo silang dalawa ni Vic Sotto sa dalawang magkasunod na MMFF entry nina Juday at Ryan. Matapos magkamot ng baba niya Bong got to the conclusion na, “si bossing ang kalaban nina Juday kasi parehong pambata ang comedy. Tama ‘yun dahil isa sa mature audience ni Bong itong taga-Floridablanca, Pampanga na si Mark Gaza na idol na idol si Senador kaya nagpilit sumama sa preskon ni Bong para makita ng personal ang idol niya at makapagpa-picture with his idol.

Anong sabi ni Mark nu’ng makita niya ang picture na ito? “Magkasing-katawan lang pala kami ng idol ko!” Oh kuha mo, Jepoy?

Isa pang kaabang-abang sa Panday ay ang mga bagong co-stars ni Bong dito like Marian Rivera and Alice Dixson. Napirata ni Bong si Alice sa Enteng, eh nakailang Enteng o Okey Ka Fairy ba `yon movies na yata si Alice.

This year lang nalipat kay Bong for a change. Kaya mismong si Alice ang nagsabi na ‘yun daw ang kaabang-abang. Dati ay kay Bossing, ngayon ay kay Bong naman!

What convinced Eugene Domingo to take on 'Househusband'

Eugene Domingo has no qualms ending up in real life with a 'househusband'MANILA, Philippines — After having done one film after the other in the last few months, award-winning actress Eugene Domingo had no intention of joining any Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry if not for the persistence of OctoArts Films’ top honcho, Orly Ilacad.

“Niligawan talaga nila ako linggo-linggo, di sila sumuko hanggang pumayag ako,” Domingo revealed recently at a press conference for the MMFF entry, “My Househusband: Ikaw Na!”

She said that agreeing to join the cast of the film became easier for her when she found out that its lead stars are Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos, both of whom are her friends in real life. Domingo revealed she even called up Ryan Agoncillo’s manager, Noel Ferrer, just before she signed her contract in order to ascertain that the original casting stays.

It also helped that the film is directed by Joey Reyes, who gave Domingo one of her earliest breaks in the ‘90s.

“Mahalaga sa akin na gusto ko yung mga katrabaho ko kasi kapag enjoy ka sa set, it shows in your work at ramdam yun ng manonood,” the comedienne explained.

Her role in “My Househusband: Ikaw Na!” differs from her past roles in that her character, Aida, becomes best friends with Rod (played by Agoncillo), a straight guy. Even in real life, Domingo says she has few straight guy friends “laging babae, bakla, o babaeng bakla” that’s why she finds the point of view of her character interesting.

“I also like it that ang comedy ko dito ay hindi over the top. Alam mo naman si Direk Joey, andun siya sa realistic, andun tayo sa sitwasyon, sa dialogue-an.

“Andun tayo sa sinasabi sa totoong buhay at kung ano ang pwede mong matutunan.”

Aida is a mistress who becomes good friends with Rod, her neighbor whose wife, Mia, is always away because she earns for the family. Aida and Rod ends up really close---watching the same telenovelas even---that Mia becomes jealous of her at one point.

Is she willing to become a mistress if the man is one she truly loves?

“Please Lord, no! Kasi nasa 10 commandments yan na wag ka makikiapid at mamalasin ka. Natiis ko na naman na wala tapos pag nagkaroon, kabit pa, so hindi na, wag na,” Domingo said.

However, it’s perfectly alright with her if she ends up with a “househusband.” 

“Basta ba masipag siya sa loob ng bahay. Pero kung nasa bahay lang siya at nakahilata ay lumayas na lang siya!

“Kung sa bahay lang ang lalaki at napapakinabangan naman ay okay lang na ako ang magtrabaho. Tapos paguwi ko, alam mo na---ako naman ang trabahuin mo!”

According to a release, “My Househusband: Ikaw Na!” is about a married couple who has a non-traditional set-up in that Rod takes care of the house and kids while Mia looks after putting food on the table. Along the way, situations arise that test the arrangement and their relationship.

“My Househusband: Ikaw Na!” is OctoArts Films’ entry to the 2011 MMFF that opens on Dec. 25.

DIREK JOEY POKES FUN AT REAL LIFE

BY this time, writer-director Joey Reyes already knows if his entry at the Cinemalaya 2012 Director’s Showcase has been chosen as one of the five finalists. The announcement was supposed to have been made yesterday. If and when he’d get the chance to film his pet project, it would definitely have a mainstream and not an indie cast since he wants Eugene Domingo, Judy Ann Santos and Iza Calzado no less to star in it. “I love indie films since the director is given full control on his material as a creative agent, as shown in the works of young directors like Chris Martinez (“100”) and Loy Arcenas (“Nino”),” he says.

This doesn’t mean he’ll turn his back on mainstream filmmaking since he’s one of the very few directors now who continues to be active. This year, he did “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi” for Star Cinema and the Metro filmfest entry, “My Househusband, Ikaw Na” for OctoArts Films.

He wants to stress that “My Househusband” is not a sequel to his earlier filmfest topgrossers “Kasal Kasalo Kasali” and “Sakal Sakali Saklolo.”  “It still stars Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo but they play totally different characters,” he says. “The script was originally written by Mel del Rosario but I updated it by including the character of Eugene Domingo, their next door neighbor who’s the mistress of a rich old man at naging best friend ni Ryan as they get to spend a lot of time with each other.”

Is it also a comedy like past Juday-Ryan films? “It’s real life, may comedy, may drama. Di ba ganun naman ang totoong buhay? It’s about marriage, family, but also about the battle of the sexes involving Pinoy machismo and the changing roles of husband and wife in today’s modern world.”

So Judy Ann Santos herself confided to writer-chums that on the outset she was woozy on the alleged affair of Ryan Agoncillo and Brazilian charmer Dianna Meneses who regularly appears on Eat Bulaga. Apparently, Juday gave in to the virulent talks about the duo. Yet lately, she realized it was a mere prevaricate report. Truth to tell, Juday admitted that she personally approached the Brazilian beauty to apologize for her awry notion on her.
How come a few who profess to be in the know somewhat contravene Juday’s reaction? They’ve claimed that their eyes didn’t betray them as they witnessed Ryan and Dianna lovey-dovey during Eat Bulaga stints out of the camera range and far from the sight of their co-hosts. Just a pother to create more intrigues? Ah, there are always two sides of a story.
Surprisingly, losing 40 lbs. ushers in a slim, sexier Juday. Frankly, she looks much better and gorgeous compared to her single years. As she mused, “product of efforts on my part para laging mabighani sa akin si Ryan.” Looks like Judy all ready to face the kleiglights anew.

Ayaw pa-pressure ni Direk Joey Reyes na kailangang kumita o lampasan ng My Househusband: Ikaw Na ang naunang dalawang pelikula nina Ryan Agoncillo at Judy Ann Santos dahil ayaw niyang mabaliw o kaya’y ma-ICU. 

Ginawa lang daw niya ang lahat para mapaganda ang pelikula.

Ipinagmamalaki ni Direk Joey, saksi siya sa pag-i-evolve ng relasyon nina Ryan at Judy Ann mula sa BF/GF phase hanggang ngayong may anak na ang dalawa.

“Naging saksi ako sa tampuhan nila, quiet lang sila, walang pansinan, nakaka-afraid. Okey na magtilian sila’t puwedeng pagtawanan ’yun, pero kung pareho silang tahimik, nakakatakot,” wika ni Direk Joey.

Another baby may well be in the works

His wife just lost an amazing 40 pounds. So no one can blame Ryan Agoncillo for being extra excited these days.

“Kulang na yung mga kuwarto sa bahay!” was his roundabout response on being asked to comment on Judy Ann Santos’ super svelte figure. “Dalawa lang yung children’s rooms—kay Yohann at kay Lucho—eh hindi malayong madagdagan pa kami ng isa pang baby!”

Despite the popular TV host’s quip, friends close to Ryan attest that in the event he and Judy Ann become parents anew, they are sure he will be an even better father.

“I’ve seen Ryan from the time he was single and I know that he has grown more responsible than ever,” offered director Jose Javier Reyes, who helmed Ryan and Judy Ann’s 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, My Househusband: Ikaw Na!, which opens on Christmas Day.

Man of the house
Ryan himself reveals a lot about being a hands-on dad. Unlike the archetypical father who heads straight to his armchair to kick off his shoes and relax after a hard day’s work, Ryan checks up on the children as soon as he gets home.

“Ganyan kami ni Juday,” he related, not one to take all the credit for good parenting. “Especially since we’ve been working together and coming home together for the movie, mag-kakasalubong nalang kami sa hallway kasi isa-isa kaming pupunta sa kuwarto ng mga bata to see how they’re doing.”

Aside from his daddy duties, Ryan, apparently, is also a great help around the house. He is never hesitant to don an apron if he is needed in the kitchen, or reach for a rug if one-year-old Lucho makes a mess.

“Ilang beses na akong pumunta sa party sa bahay nila Ryan at Juday only to find Ryan in an apron,” confirmed Direk Joey, who is a neighbor of the Agoncillos. “Wala sa kanya yon!”
“Pero isa lang talaga ang hindi niya magawa,” laughed his proud wife, “at yan ang mag-walis!”

The two enjoyed teasing the 32-year-old celebrity who, in turn, affirmed that he is not gender-sensitive when it comes to his home life. According to Ryan, he is the exact opposite of his title role in My Househusband, where he plays Rod—a proud padre de familia who is suddenly forced in a non-traditional set up with his wife Mia (Judy Ann) when he loses his job as a bank manager. With responsibilities reversed—Mia becoming the breadwinner and Rod the homemaker—he feels demeaned by chores and babysitting duties.

“I have so much respect for ‘househusbands’ especially in these difficult times,” shared Ryan. “That is, if the man became a househusband by circumstance, and not because tamad lang siya.

“In fact, I was raised by a househusband because my dad chose to run a business from home,” he continued. “Sa tingin ko, I wouldn’t be the way I am today—open sa gawaing bahay at pagpapalaki ng mga bata—if it weren’t for growing up that way.”

A slice of life
While Ryan is comfy cozy with his home life, he is on pins and needles as the countdown to opening day of My Househusband begins. According to Direk Joey, the pressure is heavier on Ryan than Judy Ann this time because he plays the titular role.

It will be remembered that Ryan and Judy Ann starred in two consecutive MMFF blockbuster hits, Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo (2008) and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo (2009). And while Judy Ann is considered a seasoned actress, all eyes were on the neophyte actor Ryan, who was able to hold his own across his then superstar girlfriend.

“Siyempre, mas nakaka-nerbyos ngayon kasi we’re pitted against giants in the coming MMFF,” Ryan confessed. “May Vic Sotto-Ai Ai delas Alas; Bong Revilla; Kris Aquino-Ding Dong Dantes. Pero on the other hand, masaya din ang maging underdog, lalo na’t ang mga kakampi ko sa laban sa mga higante ay sila Judy Ann at Direk Joey.”

“I really have to commend Ryan for a job well done in this movie,” was Direk Joey’s kind words for the nervous Ryan. “Now that he is playing both a father and a husband, he is bringing so much of himself in this film and moviegoers will sense that.”

Moreover, the filmmaker is confident that My Househusband will emerge a top-grosser precisely because it offers a slice of real life.

“Ngayong Pasko ay makikita ninyo ang sarili ninyo o isa man lang sa mga kakilala ninyo sa pelikulang ito,” Direk Joey elaborated. “Each of the MMFF entries has its own slant, and for us, we offer nothing fantastic—just reality. That is our edge.”

And true, who better to deliver such a story of family life than real-life husband and wife Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos? The pair is doing a great job on and off camera.

Judy Ann Santos feels this is the right time to have another baby

Judy Ann Santos on having another baby now that son Lucho has turned one year old: “Kasi, kung kakalkulahin mo at kung gusto pa naming magkaroon ng isa pang baby, okay naman. Mabuntis man ako at the age of 34, okay pa yun. Huwag lang at the age of 36 kasi, ang hirap nang maka-recover. Ang hirap nang humabol sa bagets. Mahirap na. At least, itong panahon na ‘to, mabibigyan mo ng lahat ng atensiyon ang bata. At saka, kapag nakikita ko ang mga anak namin, ang saya-saya ko. Ang ganda nila. Ang sarap-sarap nilang panoorin."*

Sa pelikulang My Househusband na pinagsasamahan ng mag-asawang Judy Ann Santos at Ryan Agoncillo, may mga nagsasabing  parang may anggulo raw na kuwentong  No Other Woman.

Sa nasabing pelikula na entry sa darating na Metro Manila Film Festival ng OctoArts Films, ang third party ay ginagampanan daw ni  Eugene Domingo.

Tawa naman nang tawa si Juday [palayaw ni Judy Ann] nang tanungin kung sa totoong buhay raw ba, may nangyari nang may third party na na-involve sa kanilang mag-asawa.

“Wala pa naman akong nakikitang babaeng sobrang malapit kay Ryan na pinag-isipan ko ng malisya,” natatawang sagot ni Juday.

“Marami naman po kasi si Ryan na mga kaibigang babae. And alam ko naman even when get together, siya ang tipo ng lalaking magiging kaibigan niya ang lahat ng ex niya.

“At hindi isyu sa akin yun. Ganoon, e, parte yun ng pagiging lalaki mo.

“Never pa namang naging isyu sa akin ang third party na tsismis, ha. Ibang usapan naman sa akin ang totoo.

“Hindi ko masasagot ang totoo kasi, wala pa namang ganoong bagay at huwag namang mangyari.

“Ibang usapan na yun. Baka naman mag-iba na ang pagkatao [ko] kapag ganoon.”

WHEN IT HAPPENS… Ano ang posible niyang gawin kung mahuli nga niya at malaman niyang totoo na may third party?

“Hindi ko masasagot ‘yan Kapatid. Baka magdilim ang paningin ko. Hindi ko masasagot. Baka manlamig, hindi ko alam, e.”

RYAN’S EXES? Wala siyang pinagselosan sa mga naging ex-girlfriends ni Ryan?

“Ngayon wala. Baka siguro noon,” natatawang pag-amin pa ni Juday.

“E, sino ba naman ang hindi magseselos sa ex.”

BODY FOR HUBBY. Kapansin-pansin ang mas pagiging sexy ni Juday ngayon. Hindi nito itinanggi  na siyempre raw, may effort din sa part niya na mas lalo pang maging “yummy” sa paningin ng asawa.

“Oo naman. Hindi ko naman itinatanggi yun na nagpapayat lang ako dahil gusto ko lang.

“Hindi puwede. Kailangan mag-effort ka na maging maganda para sa asawa mo at para hindi na lang siya tumingin sa iba.”

NEXT BABY? Naging open naman si Ryan na kung sakali, gusto rin daw nitong masundan ang anak nila na si Lucho. Siya ba, okay rin sa ideya na ‘yun?

“Ready naman,” natatawa niyang sabi. “Kasi, kung kakalkulahin mo at kung gusto pa naming magkaroon ng isa pang baby, okay naman.

“Gusto mo silang dagdagan. Parang lego lang,” biro pa niya.
