Which gross receipt is accurate?

Which gross receipt is accurate?

STIR.PH received an unofficial report that Viva Film’s Hating Kapatid grossed close to P50 million in its first week of screening while Star Cinema’s Cinco grossed P60 million in its second week.

Viva Films had previously reported a P75 million gross for Hating Kapatid’s first week while this report’s figure for the Star Cinema gross does not come close to claim as a blockbuster release.

STIR.PH is at a loss which figure is accurate due to the absence of an independent and audited gross sales monitoring and reporting system for cinemas. It calls the cinema industry or an independent body to come up with such a system.

According to an article on abs-cbnNEWS.com, Lloydie is said to be wary about doing another movie with Sarah dahil baka hindi ito kagatin ng mga fans lalo pa’t alam ng lahat na may bagong girlfriend na siya.
Nakapanghihinayang naman kung magkakaganoon because Sarah and Lloydie are certified huge crowd-drawers. The public adores their tandem kaya naman naging blockbuster ang kanilang dalawang pelikulang A Very Special Love at You Changed My Life. They were crowned Box-Office King and Queen by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation – isang pagpapatunay na malakas talaga ang hatak sa mga manonood nina Lloydie at Sarah.
But on a lighter note, Lloydie smiled when told that Sarah mentioned that their last two projects together were memorable for her.
May mga taong nakakikilig panoorin na magkasama onscreen because they look good together and they have great chemistry.
Sarah has a new movie titled Hating Kapatid with Judy Ann Santos samantalang Lloydie is paired for the first time with Angel Locsin in the upcoming ABS-CBN primetime teleserye titled Imortal.
And in my opinion, Sarah can take her time tutal bata pa siya and she has all the time to enjoy and love life. I agree with Juday when she said on The Buzz na darating ang tamang lalaki na nakalaan para kay Sarah basta’t maghintay lang siya.
Kaibigan, usap tayo muli!

Juday, Sarah pinakakaba sina Claudine, Anne at Richard

Juday, Sarah pinakakaba sina Claudine, Anne at Richard

Of course, nire-refer dito ng drama queen ang love scene niya with Richard.

HAting Kapatid premiere night!

Film review: Hating Kapatid

An 'A' for Juday and Sarah as comedy actors

Film review: Hating Kapatid

MANILA, Philippines - The comic-drama Hating Kapatid reminds moviegoers about Magkapatid, a dramatic vehicle with a strikingly similar plot about sisters, with Judy Ann as the younger sister of Sharon Cuneta.

This time around, it’s Judy Ann’s turn to play big sis to singer-actress Sarah Geronimo in Hating Kapatid, a light but touching story about sibling love and bonding. Judy Ann and Sarah are two sisters who grew up without their parents around, since the old folks had to work abroad to give their daughters a better life.

Judy Ann, who plays the strong-willed and protective Rica, was only in her teens, while Sarah, who is the obedient and dutiful Cecilia, could barely talk when their parents (Tonton Gutierrez and Cherie Pie Picache) left them to work in Libya. The sisters were entrusted to their grandmother (Gina PareƱo), who helped raise her two grandchildren by selling firecrackers in Bulacan.

Even with the guidance of their lola, Rica strongly felt the need to stand as both father and mother to Cecilia while the latter was growing up, that’s why she was the strict and over-protective ate. When their parents returned home from abroad after 20 years, the story took a different turn. The family moved to a new house and, thanks to the hard-earned dollars, got to enjoy the comforts of life, including a new car.

Cecilia, who used to be dependent merely on her Ate Rica, made an effort to get close to her parents and know them better. This made her Ate Rica jealous.

Rica detested the arrival of her parents. She felt it altered both her and her sister’s lives after 20 years, so she had no qualms of showing them her feelings. She was detached, indifferent and totally uninterested about everything that her parents wanted to do for them. This created an emotional rift between Rica and her family, prompting her to leave their modern home and return to their old house in Bulacan.

Director Wenn Deramas weaves his proven-and-tested comedy formula to bring Hating Kapatid to box-office success. Given a very lean cast, he was able to allow everyone to get a slice of the story and substantial big screen exposure, as well.

Vice Ganda was billed in an introductory role in the movie. This was perhaps an oversight on the part of Viva Films, since Vice Ganda made his big screen debut in the Vilma Santos starrer, All My Life, shown last year.

Undoubtedly, it was Vice who provided most of the comic relief in the film, with outstanding timing for his punch lines. Even when the scene was not focused on him, he managed to get the laughs with his side-splitting one-liners, riotous facial expressions and impeccable comic timing. This comedian certainly knows how to entertain his audience.

The seasoned Gina PareƱo, as expected, was witty and hilarious. It certainly does not alienate her to work with both old and young stars. She managed to shine on her own and bring her acting experience to the fore.

Casting JC de Vera as leading man to Judy Ann provided the shrieks and screams from the fans. The good-looking JC, although wasn’t given much acting highlights, added eye candy to the comic-drama fare. His every close-up ignited the big screen and delighted his female fans. This young leading man obviously has a growing following — thanks to his constant TV exposure.

Luis Manzano, as the love interest of Sarah, got to have his own comic moments that complemented his scenes with his leading lady. He knew when to deliver and deliver he did.

While there are a number of amusing scenes in the film that elicited the laughs, which direk Wenn is known for (he is not a box-office comedy director for nothing), there was also emotional heft displayed in the story, courtesy of the two lead stars.

Judy Ann, of course, is better known for her dramatic prowess. Of late, however, it is her comic starrers that delivered the dough, like her two blockbusters with hubby Ryan Agoncillo — Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo.

Sarah, for her part, also made huge box-office returns with her last two films, both opposite John Lloyd Cruz — You Changed My Life and A Very Special Love. Credit her for her comic timing that also endeared her with moviegoers who patronized her big screen projects.

The scene in Hating Kapatid where the sisters reunite after having a misunderstanding was a tearjerker. Another scene where mom Cherie Pie confronted the calloused Rica was also a weepie.

Judy Ann and Sarah joining forces in one film certainly added box-office muscle to Hating Kapatid. It took a long while for Viva Films to pull off a casting coup like this one, but it was certainly worth the wait.

Preggy Juday willing to pose in the nude

Judy Ann Santos is in a good mood as her movie "Hating Kapatid" is a bonafide hit, raking in P11 million on its first day per PR Shirley Pizarro.

"Suerte pala talaga ang buntis," she says. "Pampabuenas sa first movie namin ni Sarah Geronimo."

Her fans should really see this film as it would be her last one before giving birth.
"Matatagalan before I do another film kasi I’ll breastfeed my baby and spend most of my time with him. Bumalik man ako sa work, I want to do a hosting job muna on TV para hindi ako masyadong mawala sa bahay ng matagal. Gusto ko I’ll be there when he talks and walks for the first time. I plan to do a babybook for him where I’ll record everything he does."

Everyone says she’s a beautiful pregnant woman. Would she be willing to pose in the nude showing her naked tummy like other preggy celebs?

Judy Ann Santos says Sarah Geronimo is always welcome in her home

Most people expect that a young star like Sarah Geronimo would learn a lot from a veteran actress like Judy Ann Santos. But the latter stressed that the Pop Star Princess already has lots of accomplishments of her own and that she doesn’t need to ask for her help anymore. “Hindi ko siya kailangan turuan. Parang natural yung talento niyang umarte, magpatawa, at magpaiyak. She's doing very good in this profession.

Judy Ann further shared that she somehow sees herself in Sarah. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why they got along both on and off cam of Hating Kapatid. “Oo, alisin mo lang yung concert artist. Pati sa love life parang ganyan din ako dati. Pain will find a way to go to her.”

But even now that she’s older and wiser, Judy Ann stressed that it’s important for Sarah—or for any young impressionable girl for that matter—to experience the best and the worst lessons she could get out of life for it will make her a stronger person.

On a lighter note, Judy Ann is looking forward to bonding with Sarah when the latter has enough time out of her very hectic schedule.

Sarah Geronimo tulog queen

Sarah Geronimo tulog queen

SARAH Geronimo the sleep addict, had a truly happy birthday last Sunday since her film with Judy Ann Santos, “Hating Kapatid,” is a box office hit. “Nakakatuwa talaga kasi kahit maulan, marami pa ring nanood sa amin,” she says.
She said earlier that she wants more independence now that she’s 22. Does that mean she’d be more attentive to affairs of the heart? “Naku, love life na naman, puwede ba, let’s just set that aside? When I say I want more freedom, it’s in terms of decision-making when it comes to my career. Balak kong bumili ng Grandia which is a bigger vehicle para naman I’d be more comfortable when I do out of town shows. Kasi ang luxury ko in life is sleeping kaya at least makakatulog ako nang maayos kahit na nagbibiyahe ako for my next job.”

The guy touted to have broken her heart, Rayver Cruz, also turned a year older on July 20, any message for him? “Naku, tama na 'yang ganyang message-message. No comment na lang.”

"Hating Kapatid" earns P75 million in 5 days | The highest 5-day gross in 2010

"Hating Kapatid" earns P75 million in 5 days | The highest 5-day gross in 2010

Viva Films' "Hating Kapatid", which opened July 21, reportedly earned P75 million in just 5 days or during its 1st week: July 21 to 25.

Wow! That's according to Viva Films via STIR website.

It's almost not believable because they only had P10.5 million during its opening. So, does it mean they earned P64.5M or around P16M/day the next 4 days?

If it's indeed true, then "Hating Kapatid", which stars Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo, now has the highest 1st week gross this 2010, beating "Miss You Like Crazy", which starred John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

And if the trend continues, it's going to be the fastest to reach P100M mark and become the topgrossing film this year.

Hating Kapatid' Movie Review

'Hating Kapatid' Movie Review

07.23.2010
